Denver Pumbing Outside Faucet Leak and Broken, Time Plumbing Explains How To Prevent

March 15th, 2011

Denver Plumbing Repair, Its that time of the year again. When turning on an outside faucet for the first time be careful. We get a lot of calls each year of flooded basements from people using there outside faucet the first time after winter. What happens is when the hose is left on the faucet during the winter the water can’t drain out of the faucet and when it freezes it can split open the pipe in the wall between the wall and shut off (most outside faucets shut off one  foot inside the wall). When it is used about 1/2 the water goes out the faucet and 1/2 sprays into the house. What a mess. Always remove your hose before winter or after each use and use with caution the first time in the spring. Teenagers love to wash cars in the winter and leave the hose on. Every year Time Plumbing & Heating replace’s 200 to 300 outside faucets. We use an outside faucet that has a built in check valve to prevent this from happenning in the future. Local residents and naibors can dial 303 Plumber (758-6237) anytime with any plumbing questions. Thank You, Brad Apple
