We get a lot of calls each year of flooded basements from people using there outside faucet the first time after winter. What happens is when the hose is left on the faucet during the winter the water can’t drain out of the faucet and when it freezes it can split open the pipe in the wall between the wall and shut off (most outside faucets shut off one foot inside the wall). When it is used about 1/2 the water goes out the faucet and 1/2 sprays into the house. What a mess. Always remove your hose before winter or after each use and use with caution the first time in the spring. Teenagers love to wash cars in the winter and leave the hose on. He went downstairs and found the pilot light was out, he read the instructions on how to light the pilot light but could not get it to light. He talked to Brad Apple who explained that the State Water Heaters have a lot of problems with there fire damper system. It can easily get stopped up and burn out the fire safety inside.
